I attended Pine Forest High School in Fayetteville, North Carolina where I graduated with Honors as a North Carolina Scholar in the top 15% of my class. I received an academic scholarship to North Carolina State University, but came home after a year to help my grandmother who was diagnosed with Breast Cancer. I, then, continued my education at Fayetteville State University where I volunteered as a cheerleading coach for the Cheer Dynamic Rockets. After 3.5 years, I graduated in December of 2004, as Valedictorian, from Faytteville State University with many accolades and recognition from national organizations. After about 2 years working in Telecommunications, I decided to enter the lateral entry program to become a teacher. A gift I feel I was blessed with since I was a child. I began teaching Mathematics at E.E. Smith High School in the fall of 2006. The next year I transferred to South View High School where I continued to teach several Mathematics courses for 7 more years. In 2014, I moved to Lithia Springs, GA and was offered a teaching position at Lithia Springs High School where I was a member of the STEM certification team. I enjoyed teaching Accelerated Algebra 1/Geometry B and Algebra 1 (on-level). In the spring of 2016, I was hired as a Mathematics instructor at Douglas County High School to teach GSE Algebra 1 (on level) and GSE Geometry (on-level). Since then I have been Rookie Teacher of the month and Top Cat which allowed me to be nominated for Teacher of the year. I am so excited to be a Tiger and a part of the DC IB Academy. I look forward to a wonderfully successful school year as your child's Mathematics instructor this school year. Lets have a Grrrrrrreat school year!!! Sylvia M.
